San Francisco Slice contributor David Kover spotted these posters for Una Pizza Napoletana in the Mission recently and noted that they have been popping up around town. I asked him what he thought it was all about and his response was, "It's telling that there's no pizza in the actual poster. Shows just how clearly the mystique of the place is linked to Mangieri himself." The posters certainly have a high art cast to them, like a frame that would appear in a Peter Greenaway film (think The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover). Maybe the message is, as Kover pointed out, not too far from the summation Carey Jones made about UPN in her review of the place: "The message isn't subtle. This is pizza as performance."

Is Mangieri just reminding the citizens of San Francisco that there is pizza greatness happening in their city, or is there something more to these mystery posters?
