If you're heading out to the Frieze New York Art Fair (which ends today), drop by the Roberta's pizza stand for the Def Aleppo ($13). Anthony Falco, head of Roberta's mobile ops, who was manning the peel yesterday when I tried this, said it was a special pie for the Randall's Island–based fair.
It's a white pie (no tomato sauce) topped with mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta, Aleppo pepper, and spring garlic. If Aleppo pepper sounds familiar, that's because you've probably seen in on My Pie Monday, where dhorst has been a huge proponent and "Aleppo crack" dealer. In fact, as Falco described the pie, he said, "You know where I got the idea, don't you?"
That's right! Dhorst has helped spread the epidemic to NYC. We're hoping Roberta's mobile ops puts it on the menu at its other pop-up locations.
