Pizza has been part of the American education system for years. How else would kids learn fractions?

But this past week, the San Francisco Community Alternative School took pizza education to the next level. No, they didn't order pies from the local slice shop. The kids cooked their own pies—in a wood-burning oven!

Like many schools in the Bay Area, San Francisco Community has a garden program, where the students help out growing vegetables, like broccoli, chard, and even some edible flowers. As part of their year-end celebrations, the school fired up the cob oven they have sitting in their front yard and let the students make pizzas using ingredients fresh from the garden.
