Daily Slice gives a quick snapshot each weekday of a different slice or pie that the folks at the Serious Eats empire have enjoyed lately.
Little Gourmet became my go-to lunch spot during a temporary job in El Segundo. After trying every pizza place in the area, the Cheese Pizza Bread ($2.50) won me over despite being the very definition of Sysco pizza.
The sweet dried herb heavy sauce soaks halfway through the generic branded "French" bread, creating a soft center while retaining the crisp underside of the bread. A heavy handful of aged mozzarella gets broiled into a brown studded layer that stretch into long tendrils as the bread pulls apart. It tastes like something assembled from supermarket ingredients in a college dorm room—it's fast and uncomplicated. This is not a destination pizza by any means; but it's a guilty pleasure that will satiate pizza cravings if you ever find yourself temporarily in El Segundo too.
