Daily Slice gives a quick snapshot each weekday of a different slice or pie that the folks at the Serious Eats empire have enjoyed lately.
City Pizza is a South Philly delivery and take-out spot that doubles as a tanning salon. (Gym, Tanning, Pizza?) My sausage slice featured a ridiculous amount of sausage shavings that just sort of sat on top of the pizza—the sausage was thrown on an already cooked plain slice and then reheated rather than coming from a sausage pie. Even so, it was a seriously satisfying fat slice with lots of cheese and sauce and an almost pan/sicilian thick (but nice and crisp) crust.
While this might not be the spot for exercises in beautiful pizza simplicity, the quality of sauce and cheese is a slight notch above others in the area. If I try this place again it'll definitely be for some of their wild mutant pizza concoctions—they've got the infamous pizzaz along with a "Smothered Fries Pizza" covered with red sauce, french fries, cheese, bacon and ranch dressing.
